India’s small car segment accounts for nearly two-third of the total cars sales in the country. This segment is mostly dominated by the largest car manufacturer of India – Maruti Suzuki India Limited. Now Honda is ready to launch its small car in India from its global product portfolio. This model will be the costliest model in the premium hatchback small car segment in the country.

Honda is expected to launch Jazz on June 10 and is expected to be priced at Rs. 6.5 -8 lakh ex showroom making it India’s most expensive “super-mini” - Fabia ends at about 8 lakhs on road.

The Jazz has been developed on the same platform as Honda City which is the best selling sedan in the country. Jazz is sold as Honda Fit in Japan and was the best selling car there last year. Honda intends to position the model as a technology warrior rather than putting it on the price front. Its other models like Accord, City or Civic also claim the same technological and brand premium in their segment rather than competing on price with other cars in their segment.

Honda is also planning to launch a second small car in India which will be built on a completely new platform. Honda Siel Cars India Limited CEO Masahiro Takedagawa is yet to get an approval from the Japanese parent company for the same. The new small car in India will be completely built in India and will have better fuel efficiency compared to any other hatchback available in India.
