Iconic American cruiser manufacturer Indian Motorcycles, according to reports, has decided to expand its current line-up of bikes by making an addition of a new model. Reportedly, this new model is going to be christened as the Roadster, a moniker that was used by Indian Motorcycles during the mid 20th century (1940s and 1950s). The cult status firm hopes to rekindle customer interest in a name that was a big hit in old times.

Though no official confirmation or announcement has come from the company yet, reports were leaked on the internet that showed a document in which the new bike had passed emission tests in America. A lot was revealed in the document including the engine capacity and its potential torque. Interestingly, both American classic bike makers, Harley Davidson and Indian Motorcycles do not reveal the power level generated by their bikes and the only revelation is the torque.

According to the document leaked on the internet the Indian Roadmaster is going to be fitted with an 1811 cc ‘Thunder-Stroke’ V-twin engine. This engine, also used in bikes like the Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and the Chieftain, is capable of generating a torque level of 139Nm, which is quite impressive.

For now, the above mentioned are the only details about the Roadmaster that have been revealed by the company but a number of educated assumptions can be drawn given the history and its portfolio. For instance, the designs of these bikes are going to be distinct from the classic vintage themed bikes in order to facilitate slight variation in appearance. While the traditional models (Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and the Chieftain) from Indian Motorcycles compete with Harley Davidson, the new model will rival bikes like Electra Glide and Kawasaki Vulcan.

The Indian Roadmaster will be put on sale in market of USA in 2015 and an exhibition at 2014 Sturgis rally looks highly likely, meaning that customers will get the first glimpse of the motorcycle quite soon.
