The Baleno is the first car to be exported to Japan, where Suzuki (Maruti Suzuki's parent company) is also located. These cars are manufactured at its Manesar plant in India and it is also for the first time that any domestic manufacturer in India has shipped a locally made product to the parent company's homeland. The manufacturer plans to export 30,000 to 40,000 units of the car under the 'Make in India' initiative.

Maruti Suzuki had earlier mentioned that they will sell the Baleno in 100 global markets. Recently, the carmaker exported the hatchback to Belgium, Poland, Germany, Slovenia and Italy in the left-hand drive configuration. These were powered by the 1,242cc (K12C) petrol engine mated to either the automatic or five-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the ones exported to South Africa get the 1.4-litre petrol unit mated to the five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.
