      India-bound Renault Kaptur

Renault's upcoming new five-seater crossover was spotted on test with minimal camouflage in Brazil. The SUV was unveiled in the country at the start of this month and should also make it to the Indian market by the end of 2017.

The 'Kaptur' will, however, be sold as the 'Captur' in the Brazilian market. And it’s not the same Captur that is sold in the European market. In fact, this Kaptur will be locally manufactured in Brazil and lend some design traits to the India-bound model. It is based on the BO platform underpinning the Duster. It measures 4,333mm in length, 1,813mm in width and 1,613mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,674mm and boasts of a ground clearance of 204mm. The spacious cabin has a 387litre boot, which can be expanded to 1,200litres with the rear seats down.

Reports suggest that the Brazilian market will get only the 2.0-litre 16V flex-fuel engine initially. On the other hand, in Russia, the Kaptur is offered with either a 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre petrol mill. Four-wheel drive system is also available with the 2.0-litre model.

Renault's CEO Carlos Ghosn had confirmed last month that the Kaptur will be launched in Brazil by 2017. We can expect it to be launched for the Indian market as well. We had recently reported that the carmaker had already brought a pre-production prototype for testing in our country. However, its Indian launch might be scheduled for the second half of 2017. The India-spec Kaptur is expected to be manufactured in India at Renault-Nissan's alliance facility near Chennai.
