The 2016 Fortuner is currently on sale in the Thailand and Australian markets and will also be introduced to more markets including India. This Fortuner now also gets a new body kit stepping-up the sporty look of the SUV.

This external body kit is similar to the 'Sportivo' variant of the current model on sale. The car gets an add-on chin for the bumpers and a bigger side step. At the back, there is a larger spoiler and the bumper gets integrated dual exhaust pipes with a chrome tip. Instead of the conventional fibre-reinforced plastic, the new kit is built from ABS plastic, which is apparently lighter and stronger.

The 2016 Fortuner gets engine options from the new GD set of engines. The 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel motor produces 150bhp of power and 400Nm of torque, while the other 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel mill churns out 177bhp of power and 450Nm of torque. The former comes as a replacement to the current 2.5-litre KD diesel engine, and the latter will take place of the 3.0-litre KD unit powering the current oil-burner. The transmission options include either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The addition of the new body kit has added to the appeal of the sharper looking next-gen Fortuner. The launch of the SUV is unlikely to happen anytime soon in India, but Toyota Kirloskar Motors might bring the car to the 2016 Auto Expo. After its impending launch for Indian market, it will compete with the Chevrolet Trailblazer and the upcoming Ford Endeavour next year.
