While speaking about the challenges persisting in the Indian auto market, Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Vice-President – National Sales, HMIL, said, "The overall market demand is suppressed due to general inflationary trend, high fuel prices and interest rates. Unless any major triggers get activated, market sentiment is not expected to improve very much."

The sales growth in the domestic market was measured at 5.9 percent, rising from 26,677 units sold in August 2011 to 28,257 units sold in August this year. This growth was set off owing to the decline in the exports by a substantial 23.4 percent. The exports in August last year was recorded at 24,335 units in comparison to the export of 18,629 units this August.

In the hatchback segment, the Hyundai badged Eon, Santro, i10 and i20 models collectively contributed to 40,049 units, while the models segmented as compact sedan, Hyundai Verna and Accent totalled sales of 6145 units. The sales of the mid-size sedan, Hyundai Elantra were recorded at 608 units.
