Competition between Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki has been well known in the Indian market. A couple of years ago, Maruti Suzuki had introduced the Swift Dzire Tour for the Taxi market. This time around, Hyundai has reportedly been planning on introducing the Xcent in Taxi variant. Expected to be offered as a base variant, meaning less price, it could find takers among the commercial vehicle operators in the country.

Unlike Maruti Swift Dzire Tour that is only available in 1.3-litre diesel trim, the Hyundai Xcent Taxi variant would continue to be offered in petrol and diesel variants. The petrol trim would get 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT engine that would generate about 82bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. Whereas, the diesel trim would be powered by 1.1-litre U2 engine that generates about 71bhp of power and 180Nm of torque. To keep the price under check, the company shall offer the Taxi variant in only 5-speed manual gearbox option.

It also excludes features like central locking, power windows, AC-cooled glovebox, wheel caps and blackened pillars. The seat material would also be toughened for rugged use by Taxi operators. The pricing aspect is not known for now, being a stripped down version, it could be priced at much lower than the existing quotes.
