Ahead of its much awaited launch, the Hyundai Tucson has been spotted testing and this time around it is on the streets of Pune. The D-segment SUV will be launched for the Indian market in October. It will be offered as an alternative body style to the Elantra in this price range.

The India-spec Tucson is a five-seater SUV and will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol is expected to be the 2.0-litre unit that debuted with the Elantra while the diesel in all likelihood will be the 1.6-litre engine but in a higher state of tune. Standard features are expected to include climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable leather seats.

This is Hyundai's third SUV for India. It already has the Santa Fe as its flagship offering while the Creta is their C-segment vehicle and has been a major success for them. The Tucson is expected to revive their fortunes in the D-segment where there has been an overall lull over the last few years with regard to its traditional players - sedans. This is a segment where volumes are not particularly high but rather a segment where strength comes from pricing strategies. With consumers moving towards crossovers and SUVs as well as the Delhi diesel ban being lifted, this seems like the right time for the vehicle.
