Hyundai shall start its third shift at its second plant near Chennai from October 1, 2008. It already has a third shift running at its first plant and had earlier indicated about its expansion plans to increase its capacity by 40 percent. Its third shift shall start from next month which will help the company to accomplish its target of manufacturing more cars in India and worldwide.

Hyundai Motors India Limited is India's second largest car producer and has made India as its global exports hub for its small cars. It plans to launch its full i-series in next few years in India and abroad. It needs to increase its production capacity in order to fulfil the rising demands for its new model, i10. Hyundai's i10 has been one of the most successful models so far which recorded more than 1 lakh export orders within than seven months of its launch. It now plans to launch its next model Hyundai i20 in Europe and subsequently in India.

H S Lheem, managing director, Hyundai Motor India, said, "The i10 has been breaking all grounds in terms of demand, within the country as well as in the export market. The introduction of the new shift will make us meet those demands and help us capture a bigger share of the market." The increased production shall help Hyundai to cater to demands from 95 overseas destinations for its new model.
