South Korean automaker, Hyundai seems aggressive with its product strategies for the Indian car market. Buoyed by the overwhelming response for the new generation Elite i20, Hyundai is now aiming to enter into the growing compact SUV and crossover segments. The company will launch the much-awaited ix25 compact SUV in the country in the second half of 2015.

Hyundai will also launch a crossover based on the Elite i20 hatchback. The i20 crossover has been spotted several times during its test rounds on Indian roads, and if media reports are to be believed, the vehicle will go on sale in the first half of 2015. It is expected to cost around Rs. 40,000 to 50,000 more than the hatchback sibling, and will compete against the likes of Fiat Avventura, VW Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. The company might also pitch this crossover against soon to be launched Maruti SX4 S-Cross.

The i20 crossover is expected to get the same 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and the 1.4-litre CRDi turbo diesel engines that also power the hatchback. The exteriors of the vehicle will feature extra body cladding, new front grille and large alloy wheels.

Set to rival Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano, the Hyundai ix25 compact SUV will share its engine line-up with Verna sedan. Under the bonnet is expected to be the 1.6L diesel and petrol units. A six-speed manual gearbox will come as standard, while the automatic transmission will be offered as an optional feature. This compact SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 8-12 lakh.
