Ahead of its global debut on 27 February 2018, Hyundai has released the first teaser for the Kona electric SUV. Although details for the vehicle will be revealed later this month, the Korean car manufacturer will officially introduce the vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show. Reports indicate that the company’s first fully-electric SUV will be offered in two powertrain options with a travel range of 470kms and 500kms. The electric SUV will be introduced in the United States in the second quarter this year, while its India debut might happen sometime in 2019.

The electric version is available with 40 kWh and 60 kWh battery packs from the Chevy Bolt which is supplied by LG Chemicals. The standard version on the other hand is available in petrol and diesel engine options. The 2-litre petrol engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission generates 147bhp of power and 179Nm of peak torque, while a more powerful 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine makes 175bhp and 265Nm of peak torque. The smaller engine comes paired to a seven-speed dual clutch auto transmission. The Kona will also get a 1-litre turbo diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that generates 118bhp of power and 172Nm of peak torque. It is believed that the European market might get the 1.6-litre diesel engine.

Additional details for the Kona electric will be known in the days to come.
