Hyundai has a target of achieving sales of 10 lakh cars per annum by 2020. To attain this goal, Hyundai needs a winner in the high volume compact car segment. While the Grand i10 is doing very well, the i10 is struggling. Hyundai needs a new small car to renew its vigour and what better car than the Santro, the car that helped Hyundai establish itself in India.

As per reports, the new Santro is already in the works in South Korea and should be expected to hit Indian shores in a year or so. We expect the new Santro to be launched in early 2018 and will replace the Hyundai i10. The new Santro might not carry forward the tall-boy design that is said to be a passé amongst the latest design trends. Instead, the new Santro might get the Fluidic 2.0 design language that has been so well received by the Indian customer.

The new Santro might be built on the i10 platform itself and is expected to be priced between Rs 3- 4 lakh. It will compete with the likes of the Renault Kwid and might be offered with the 800cc as well as the 1.0-litre engine options to broaden its scope of appeal.

Santro as a brand has enjoyed amazing brand loyalty amongst Indian car brands and bringing back the moniker might prove to be a masterstroke in ensuring the success of Hyundai’s new small car.
