Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the country's largest exporter of passenger cars, has undertaken a major restructuring process in its management, with many Indians replacing Korean executives at key decision making posts. As per reports, the Indian arm of South Korean auto major will continue its top management reshuffle drive over the next two years.

As part of the restructuring drive, Hyundai Motor India has replaced two zonal heads of Korean origin with Indian executives. The company has also created new positions, which are waiting to be filled by Indians. HMIL has retained only in Korean expatriate for the southern zone. Expressing the latest development, Sanjay Pillai, Vice President, Human Resources, HMIL, was quoted as saying, “Right now 89% of all department heads in HMI are Indian and the target is to hit 100 per cent by 2014. The departments report into groups and right now 90% group heads are Indian. The target is to hit 100 per cent by 2014.”

Further, Hyundai Motor India has introduced more zones to its present four zonal divisions- north, south, east and west. The company's Lucknow zone, north zone and newly formed central zone will be headed by Anish Agarwal, Anurag Singh and Pankaj Tiwari, in order of mention. Previously, HMIL's north, central and Lucknow zones were headed by U.S. Kim. The west zone of Hyundai Motor India will see Ajay Raghuvanshi taking command from the hands of J.W. Lee, whereas the position of head of Jaipur division is yet to be filled.

Commenting on the ongoing reorganisation process in company's management, Pillai further said, “This is part of a drive within the company to empower Indian executives. We are consciously working towards having Indians in key decision making roles. From a headquarter point of view, the global management is clear that host country nationals should manage the show in mature operations and since HMI is one of the oldest and more successful overseas investments by the parent, this drive has kicked off here.”

At present, Hyundai Motor India has Indian executives as head of its five top level administration units. In 2012, T. Sarangarajan took command as Vice President and Head of production division, as the first local unit head in Hyundai/Kia's global network. Sarangarajan has three director level Korean executives and a strong 2,000 people manpower, under his management hierarchy. Further, Sanjay Pillai functions as head of decision making in Human Resources unit, whereas R. Sethuraman works as finance head of the South Korean auto major in the country.
