Hyundai India has added a new variant to its Verna Fluidic line-up. The new variant, dubbed Hyundai Verna GL, is being offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. GL trim has been inducted as a replacement to the basic 1.4 litre petrol and diesel variants of Verna. Petrol trim of new GL variant is priced at Rs 7.17 lakh and diesel version is tagged at Rs 8.35 lakh (ex-showroom price). Apart from adding a new variant to the sedan’s line-up, the company has discontinued six of Verna’s variants which include three petrol and three diesel trims. The automatic variants of Hyundai Verna, SX (O) and EX which were equipped with 1.6 litre VTVT engine have been phased out. In addition to this, Hyundai has also bidden adieu to the 1.6 litre Automatic and 1.4 litre CRDI EX trims. The basic 1.4 litre petrol and diesel trims have also been discontinued.
The newly introduced Hyundai Verna GL is equipped with a 1.4 litre VTVT motor that engenders a high power output of 105 Bhp along with a top torque of 138 Nm. Diesel powered GL variant is loaded with a 1.4 litre CRDI powertrain that produces a maximum power of 89 Bhp and a peak torque of 224 Nm. Petrol and diesel variants are affixed with a five speed manual gearbox and six speed transmission respectively. GL variant is packed with basicequipmentslike keyless entry and a 2 Din Audio system and a few others.
Fluidic version of Verna has been performing exceedingly well since its introduction in India in 2011. The modish sedan when launched was appreciated for its contemporary looks, thanks to the Hyundai’s fluidic design language. Packed with segment best equipments Verna gave its rival a run for their money. However, of late the sedan has been garnering sluggish sales as compared to previous months. New avatar of Honda’s City sedan launched in January earlier this year outnumbered Verna is monthly sales figure. Eyeing the fierce competition in C segment, Korean car maker Hyundai is expected to bring a tweaked version of Verna sedan. However, the car maker has kept details regarding the new Verna under the wraps.
