Hyundai seems all prepared to introduce an all-new MPV, codenamed IP, in the Indian auto market somewhere in 2017. Sources close to the development process have revealed that the new car will be based on Hexa Space Concept, which was revealed at the 2012 Auto Expo. Industry experts are of a view that this new vehicle will deliver a stiff competition to the leading compact MPVs present in the Indian market. Interestingly, the MPV market of India is dominated by Toyota Innova, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and newly launched Renault Lodgy.

This new model from Hyundai is expected to come equipped with both petrol and diesel engine options. In terms of transmission, both manual and automatic options are anticipated in IP. It is believed that the upcoming IP from Hyundai happens to be another feature-stuffed car, which will strike rights chords with the hearts of Indian buyers. It must be noted that Hyundai has maintained a strong presence in the compact segment, but it went missing from the utility segment for quite long. Sources have also hinted that the new Hyundai MPV will be placed below the current generation Santa-Fe. Meanwhile, Hyundai is currently busy in the development of its new compact SUV ix25, which is slated to be introduced in 2015.

It must be noted that Hyundai India has come a long way to become the largest car exporter of the country with its sales planning to surpass half a million sales volume in the next year. Experts revealed that if the company manages to achieve this sales target in the Indian market by 2016-end, it will be reckoned as the fastest brand to achieve yearly volume of 5 lakh units (in 18 years).
