      Hyundai Motor India registers 6.62% sales growth in March

      With a high sales volume of 59,229 units in the month of March 2012, Hyundai Motor India Limited, the Indian unit of the South Korean automaker has registered a growth of 6.62 percent. As per the statement issued by the company, in the corresponding period last year the sales recorded stood at 55,552 units.

      From the trendy small car segment comprising of Hyundai Eon, i10, i20 and Santro, the sales totaled to 51,336 units while the compact executive cars Hyundai Verna and Accent took its sales count to 7,679 units. Even, sales recorded for the premium sedan Hyundai Sonata was 92 units.

      Mr. Arvind Saxena, the Director (Marketing and Sales) of Hyundai Motor India Limited, commented on the sales achieved, "We could meet our expectations in March as there was considerable interest to beat the expected price hike in the Union Budget. The market continues to pose many challenges and things can improve if interest rates come down this quarter."

      The sales of the company’s product portfolio in the Indian market surged by 22.94 percent from 31,822 units in March 2011 to 39122 units in March 2012.

      The automaker’s sales in the overseas market has however, declined from 23,730 units in March 2011 to 20,107 units in the last month.

      The second largest car maker in the country is planning to uplift the production level for the domestic market, which is more elastic as compared to the overseas market that has currently witnessed declined sales volume.
