With the growing demand for multi-purpose vehicles, carmakers are launching their compact and affordable MPVs in the country. Today, Renault introduced the much-awaited Lodgy MPV to take on the likes of Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova. We reported earlier that Hyundai is also considering a compact MPV for the Indian market. If media reports are to be believed, the compact MPV from the Korean stable will be launched in 2017.

Codenamed the 'IP', the MPV will rival against the likes of Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga and Renault Lodgy in India. The MPV is likely to be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. We believe that the MPV will share engine specs with the Verna sedan -1.4-litre Kappa petrol and 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel.

The utility vehicle segment, currently, is one of the fastest growing ones in the country, and the Korean carmaker has no product in that. With this MPV, the company will try to further increase its market share in the market.

The company recently launched the i20 Active crossover, and is gearing up for the launch of much-awaited ix25 compact SUV. The ix25 compact SUV is likely to be launched by the festive season, and will take on Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, and other upcoming SUVs from Tata, Mahindra, Nissan and Honda. Interestingly, Hyundai is also contemplating a bigger SUV to be positioned above the ix25 SUV. This SUV is likely to be based on ix35/Tucson platform and will rival against the likes of Mahindra XUV500.
