The 2017 Hyundai Elite i20 has been launched for prices beginning from Rs 5.36 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The Elite i20 was launched in 2014 and the 2017 model gets dual-tone paint scheme options along with added equipment. The i20 has been the pioneer of the premium hatchback segment in India and the Elite i20 continues its legacy by being the bestselling B+ segment hatchback for a long time.
There are hardly any changes made to the exterior as it is just a mid-life update. The timeless styling of the Elite i20 will now be available in dual-tone paint options on the Asta trim only for a premium of Rs 25,000 over the standard car. You can choose between white and red hues for the body while the roof will be black. The floating roof look with blacked out pillars will continue as the body-shell remains the same along with the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and so will the Alfa-Romeo Brera styled tail lamps.
The Elite i20 cabin is already quite plush and the top-spec Asta trim now gets orange interior highlights for a premium feel. The biggest change inside is the new 7-inch touchscreen unit that debuted with the new Grand i10. The 2-DIN system will get MirrorLink, Apple Car Play and Android Auto for seamless smartphone connectivity. The Elite i20 continues to get existing features like push-button start, keyless entry, automatic headlamps and height adjustable driving seat. For safety, you will have dual front-airbags as a standard across the range along with ABS and EBD.
Since it is a cosmetic update, the mechanicals remain the same. It has two petrol engine options – a 1.2-litre Kappa 82bhp petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and a 1.4-litre 99bhp engine with a four-speed automatic gearbox. In case of diesel, you have only one engine option, the 1.4-litre CRDi unit that develops 89bhp of power and comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The renewed Elite i20 will continue to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz along with the erstwhile Fiat Punto Evo in the premium hatchback segment in India.
