Hyundai, the South Korean automaker, is gearing up for the launch of an all-new ix25 SUV, codenamed GS, in the Indian car market. According to Autocar India, the SUV will get new name and will be launched in August, 2015. Measuring over 4 metre in length, this SUV will not be eligible to avail excise duty benefits offered of Government of India on small cars. Testing of the car has already begun on Indian roads.

The ix25 SUV is expected to share engine line-up with Verna, and will get a 1.6-litre petrol or a diesel motor in both manual and automatic gearbox. This SUV will rival against Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the soon-to-be launched Suzuki S-Cross. Reports suggest that the vehicle will also get a 1.4-litre diesel engine. This is the same CRDi unit that also powers the Elite i20 hatch and cross, and the Verna 1.4. The smaller engine will allow the company to price the SUV competitively in the market, since the govt offers benefits on diesel engines under 1.5-litre capacity.

The Hyundai ix25 SUV will share styling with the current ix35 SUV. Based on Hyundai's Fluidic design sculpture, the SUV features prominent grille, flanked by wrap-around headlight clusters. It is equipped with lower air intakes with fog lamps on either sides. The flared wheel arches have been fitted to newly styled 17-inch alloy wheels. It will be a five-seater SUV, and no seven-seat option will be on offer.
