      Hyundai India sales surge 17 percent in May12

      Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL), the largest car exporter and the second largest car maker in the India market, has registered a jump of 16.56 per cent in its monthly sales during the month of May’12. The company sold a total of 55,670 units of its cars during this month as compared to 47,762 units sold in the same month last year.

      In the Indian market, the company registered a marginal sales surge of 2.85 per cent to 32,010 units as compared to 31,123 units sold in the same month last year.

      On the other hand, exports of the company registered a massive surge of 42.20 per cent to 23,660 units during this month as against 16,639 units dispatched to overseas markets in the same month previous year.

      While the A2 segment (including Eon, Santro, i10 and i20) sales of the company surged to 48,250 units, the A3 segment (Accent and Verna) sales reached 7,306 units. The sales of company’s Santa Fe SUV and Sonata sedan stood at 71 units and 43 units, respectively.

      Commenting on the company’s performance during the month, Mr. Arvind Saxena, HMIL Director (Marketing and Sales), said, "The recent hike in petrol prices has depressed market sentiment, with the macro-economic indicators providing no cause for cheer, the demand outlook doesn't look very bright."
