      Hyundai India posts 8.8% rise in domestic sales in April, export drops sharply by 39%

      India’s second largest car maker, Hyundai posted 11.8 per cent decline in sales in April 2014 at 50,222 units as against 56, 953 units sold in the same time last year. The decline in sales has been determined on year on year basis. On a positive note, Hyundai India domestic sales grew by 8.8 per cent at 35,248 units last month as compared to 32,403 units in April 2013. Though, on export front, Hyundai faced disappointment as it witnessed fall in exports by 39 per cent at 14,974 units, however in April 2013, Hyundai shipped 24,550 units to overseas markets.

      Commenting on the April sales Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. VP- Sales and Marketing, HMIL said, “Hyundai with a volume of 35,248 units has grown by 8.8% over last year which is in line with this year’s objective of growth in volume and market share. Growth is led by sedan and utility vehicles across geographies, with new products Xcent, Grand and Santa Fe, adding volumes with an overwhelming response from customers. We foresee to maintain this positive momentum in this year by strengthening product portfolio and improving channel efficiencies.”

      Hyundai introduced new Xcent compact sedan in domestic market in the month of March earlier this year. The sedan has been a hit with initial booking numbers standing at 10,000 units for the first month. Feature packed compact sedan comes with segment best equipments, Hyundai dealers all across the country received as many as 100,000 inquiries for Xcent in first 30 days. Most of the inquiries have been received from young buyers residing in metropolitan cities or Tier II cities.

      Other than this, Hyundai recently rolled out a 1.0 litre petrol variant of its small hatchback Hyundai Eon which is available in Magna trim. Hyundai is offering new 1.0 litre petrol Magna variant at Rs 3.83 lakh for the non-metallic variant and Rs 3.86 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), for the metallic variant.
