Hyundai has been excited by the success story of its model Hyundai i10. Moreover, i10 has also bagged the much coveted JK Tyre award for Car of the Year. Now it plans to bring Hyundai i20 to India.
Hyundai Motor India Limited is the second largest car manufacturer in India. It has sensed the market demand for small cars in India. It plans to bring Hyundai i20 in 2008 around October or November. It has launched Hyundai i10 also around the festive season.
The new model shall be placed between i10 and the Accent from Hyundai. Further to its expansion plans, it also plans to bring i30 which shall be placed between i20 and Hyundai Verna. The new model i30 is a long hatchback model that was showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
Hyundai has formed its exporting hub in India. It shall be exporting i20 also from India to other countries to cut the costs. The manufacturing line at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai in Tamil Nadu shall be rolling out the i10 and i20 models. It has a capacity to manufacture 6 lakh units per year.
I20 shall be priced around 4.5 lakh to 6 lakh that would compete with Skoda Fabia, Fiat Punto and Maruti Swift.
