Hyundai Motors India Limited plans to launch the new Hyundai i20 by the year end. The dull market sentiments are not holding back the company to introduce its latest model in i-series. Hyundai is planning to launch its 5-door hatchback model on December 28th. The car made its debut this year in October at the Paris Motor Show and will be priced in Rs. 5-5.5 lakh range.

The new model will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Swift Zxi and Skoda Fabia priced at Rs. 5.08 lakh and Rs. 5.24 lakh respectively. The Korean car manufacturer will unwrap its new model that will sport the 1.4 litre petrol Kappa engine that empowers the car. The company does not plan to launch any diesel variant of i20 as of now. It has already started exporting i20 to the European markets in November 2008 as this model will replace Hyundai Getz in Europe. However, the company remains non-committal about the phase out of Getz in India.

“A lot will depend on the market conditions. In another five years, a number of our models may or may not be phased out,” said Hyundai Motor India senior V-P Arvind Saxena.
