Hyundai, the South Korean automaker, will launch the much-awaited i20 Active crossover in the Indian car market on March 17, 2015. It is basically the crossover version of the highly popular Elite i20 hatchback. In order to give it a sporty touch, the company has made several changes to the hatchback. The i20 Active comes with a large 190mm of ground clearance, which is 20mm more than the standard car. The increase in ground clearance allows the car to tackle pit holes and rugged roads in a better way.

The i20 Active cross features projector headlamps along with LED daytime running lamps. It also gets new front and rear bumpers with round cornering lamps. The side profile features additional body cladding to add rugged appeal to it. Its flared wheel arches get the newly developed 16-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the bumper has thick cladding, aluminium faux skid plate and round reflectors. Inside, the car gets cooled glove box, new sport pedals, new gear knob and dual-tone seats.

The Hyundai i20 Active will share the engine line-up with the Elite i20 hatchback. The oil burner is a 1.4-litre unit, whereas the gasoline version is powered by a 1.2-litre motor. While the diesel engine is paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, the petrol motor is fitted to a five-speed manual gearbox. The company will also introduce an automatic version of the crossover, but the launch will take place at a later stage. The crossover will rival against the likes of the Volkswagen Cross Polo, Fiat Avventura and Toyota Etios Cross.
