Hyundai India is gearing up for the launch of much-awaited i20 Active aka Elite i20 crossover. Two days back, clear images of the upcoming i20 based crossover were leaked on internet. Now, the company has officially released the design sketch of the i20 Active crossover. The crossover has been designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Russelsheim, Germany.
Hyundai has also revealed the launch plans of the i20 Active. It will make its official global debut in the Indian market in March 2015. The i20 hatchback crossover will be the fourth Hyundai to make its global premiere in India after the Grand i10, Xcent and Elite i20. According to the company, "The i20 Active adopts a 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language- completing a more sporty, sharper and bold look. The 'i20 Active', SUV appearance conveys athletic presence and aggressive side-profile rake."
The company also said that the car combines fun driving, a distinctive character and sporty refinement, with the enhanced practicality and quality. Going by the leaked images, it is clearly visible that the carmaker has given enough tweaks to add some sporty touch to it. There will be extra plastic cladding all around the body, while the flared wheel arches have been fitted to bigger alloy wheels. Other changes include increased wheelbase, new bumpers, roof rails, skid plates, etc. It is expected that the company might also tweak the interiors.
Under the bonnet are likely to be the same 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel engines that power the Elite i20. Power is transmitted to the front wheels of the crossover via a five-speed manual transmission gearbox.
