      Hyundai i10, Grand i10 and i20: Top hatchbacks from South Korean auto maker

      Hyundai Motor India Limited has maintained a strong presence in the hatchback segment owing to its hatchbacks like i10 and i20. These models of Hyundai have found a large customer base in India mainly because of their superior engine performance and top-end features. Now with the addition of Grand i10, Hyundai is further expected to eat in on the market share of Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest passenger car maker. At present, the triplet of 'i' models is absolutely vital for the fortunes of Hyundai in India. So to assess the overall aspects of the three, a comparison between them has been done by analysts.

      Coming to engine specifications first, i10 is powered by an iRDE2 1.1-litre SOHC petrol engine that generates 67 bhp of power and 99 Nm of torque. In case of the recently launched Grand i10 model, it is available in diesel and petrol variants. The petrol version of Grand i10 is equipped with a 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT engine that gives away a peak output of 81 bhp alongside the 113 Nm of torque. On the other hand, its 1.1-litre U2 CRDi engine generates 70 bhp while reaching maximum torque of 159 Nm. As far as the i20 premium hatchback i20 is concerned, the car is available in three different engine options namely 1.2-litre Kappa, 1.4-litre Gamma and 1.4-litre U2 CRDi. In case of the base 1.2-litre Kappa version, the maximum power and torque stands at 83 bhp and 113 Nm, respectively. The 1.4-litre petrol engine guise gives an output of 98 bhp and 136 Nm of top torque. While the diesel engine of i20 has an ability to attain a peak power of 88 bhp alongside the 219 Nm of torque.

      In terms of ex-showroom price, all the three models differ from each other as the i10 range starts from Rs. 3.75 lakh and further goes on till Rs. 4.61 lakh. The newly launched Grand i10 model is offered from Rs. 4.29 lakh till Rs. 6.41 lakh. In the case of i20, the premium hatchback is available at Rs. 4.85 lakh for the base variant whereas the top-specification version comes at Rs. 7.88 lakh.

      In the fuel efficiency department, the diesel version of Grand i10 gives the best mileage as compared to i10 and i20 with a claimed average of 24 kmpl. For the petrol Grand i10, the claimed figure stands at 18.9 kmpl. On the other hand, the petrol mill of i10 is capable of giving a fuel economy of 20.36 kmpl. As far the mileage of premium hatchback i20 is concerned, the petrol variant returns 18.9 kmpl while the diesel one gives 21.9 kmpl, according to company claims.
