Hyundai has finally decided to fill in the void between i10 and i20 with a new model named the Grand i10. The second largest manufacturer of passenger cars in India is expected to launch the new Grand i10 by next month. This hatchback will directly give stiff competition to likes of Swift and Ritz from Maruti Suzuki.

The new Hyundai Grand i10 will co-exist between the already established i10 and i20 models. This new car is longer, wider and provided with much needed space in the rear passenger seats as compared to i10. While talking about the new hatchback, Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President of Sales for Hyundai India said, “This car is built on an absolutely new platform and will be offered with the 1.1-litre diesel engine in India for the first time. It is very different from the current i10.”

The new hatchback will face a stiff competition from Maruti Suzuki Swift, which comes with 1.2-litre K series petrol engine as well as 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. The Grand i10 is also expected to be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant will come equipped with a 1.2 Kappa engine, while the diesel variant will be powered a 1.1 U2 CRDi engine. The new technology of average bar-pressure and turbo charging in the engine will enhance the overall performance.

As far as the design of the hatchback is concerned, it is borrowed from the company's Fluidic Design Language, which has been extensively used by the auto maker in its various models. The interiors of the car are reported to be based on the two-tone colour that gives it an appealing look. Features like electronically adjustable outside mirrors, central locking and automatic control system will be provided in the Grand i10. Though there is no official confirmation regarding the features that will be available, it is expected to roll out with advanced specifications.

With power packed features and a new engine, the car will be aggressively priced around Rs. 5.5 to 7.5 lakh, offering tough competition to Maruti Suzuki Swift, which is currently priced between Rs. 4.48 lakh and Rs. 6.87 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). As it will be the cheapest diesel offering of Hyundai in the Indian car market, the Grand i10 is expected to enjoy a huge success and pose a threat to Maruti Swift.
