      Hyundai emerges as a volume puller, reports revenue of Rs. 12,600 crore in first half of 2012

      The Indian subsidiary of well-established South Korean auto maker, Hyundai Motor Company, has come up with its sales figures for the first six months of 2012, showing a surge of 3 per cent in its revenue. Although during the period the company witnessed dwindling sales of its few iconic models, the figures stood at 2,612 billion Korean Won, which was more than Rs. 12,600 crore. The sales of entry-level hatchback Eon were not affected in the first half of the 2012.

      In the corresponding period last year, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) reported revenues of 2,533 billion Korean Won, which stood around over Rs. 12,300 crore. Considering the stature of sales volumes, the Indian arm of multinational conglomerate marked a growth of 7.2 per cent between tenure of January and June 2012 with figures standing 3,25,000 units. In the same period last year, the records of Hyundai India reflected sales of 3,03,000 units.

      The sales during this year were mainly driven by Hyundai Eon, introduced somewhere in October 2012, which accounted for 62,000 units in the overall volume. In the first half of 2012, the demand for Hyundai’s bestseller i10 reduced by 11.26 per cent and amounted to 1,26,000 units against the 1,42,000 units sold in year-ago period.

      Under the reviewed period, the demand for company’s premium hatchback i20 stood at 56,000 units, registering a slump of 16.41 per cent when compared against the 67,000 units sold during the same period last year. Considering the combined sales of Santro, Accent and Verna, the figures were less than 13.82 per cent, totalling at 81,000 units against 94,000 units delivered in the year-ago period.

      Bringing global sales revenue of the auto maker in limelight, in the first half of 2012, the figures were floating at 42,105 billion Korean Won, comparatively higher that the revenues of year-ago period, which stood at 38,325 billion Korean Won. The net profit during the period registered at 4,998 billion Korean Won, which was more than the last year’s figures, as it stood at 4,184 billion Korean Won.

      Besides selling its vehicles in the Indian auto market, the South Korean auto giant delivers its products in 120 countries, including EU, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
