The Elite i20 has been a popular seller in the premium hatchback segment in the country. The stylish hatchback is however only available in manual transmission in diesel and petrol variants. Recently, Hyundai had launched the India-made i20 hatchback in Indonesia which is powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine and comes mated to manual and automatic transmission options. It is likely that the Indian market will also get a similar one soon.

The current model is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa engine which is mated to a five-speed manual transmission to generate 81bhp of power. The diesel version is powered by a 1.4-litre engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission which puts out 87bhp of power. This time around, Hyundai might introduce the petrol automatic option in the form of its new 1.4-litre engine which is serving the international market. The 1.4-litre four cylinder engine will generate about 98bhp of power and 133Nm of torque. This will help the automaker fill the gap in this segment and compete strongly against Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz.

Hyundai India has not revealed much about the vehicle yet. However, we believe that the vehicle will be offered in a higher variant and is likley to offer ABS with EBD and dual front airbags as standard. On the design front no major cosmetic upgrades are expected for now. More details about the vehicle will be known in the coming days.
