The Elite i20 from Hyundai has been a popular pick in the premium hatchback segment in the country. However, the absence of an automatic option has been diverting customer attention to other options in the market. To address this, Hyundai has silently introduced the four-speed automatic petrol option on the Magna variant and its price will be revealed in the coming days.
The automatic transmission option comes mated to a new 1.4-litre dual VTVT, four-cylinder petrol engine which generates 98bhp of power at 6000rpm and 132Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The automaker has decided to offer the automatic option only in mid-variant keeping in mind the price sensitive Indian market. The new bigger petrol engine will also help in positioning itself better in competition against the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo in India.
To make the Elite i20 all the more interesting, Hyundai has offered six airbags in top-end Asta (O) in petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol top-end variant is offered at Rs 7.76 lakh, while diesel is offered at Rs 9.0 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi), which is about Rs 15,000 over the older prices. The upgrades will surely help Hyundai to gain additional sales numbers from its premium hatchback.
