2018 Hyundai Elite i20 launched in India

Hyundai unveiled the 2018 Elite i20 hatchback at the biennial event revealing the design details of the car. This revised premium hatchback boasts of cosmetic changes including a large V-shaped grille finished in gloss black. The chrome frame has been given a miss unlike the outgoing model. The fog lamp inserts and air dam have also been redesigned. Though the headlight clusters have a similar shape as the previous model, there are C-shaped chrome inserts along with integrated LED DRLs. The top-of-the-line Asta variant continues to get projector headlamps. At the back, the i20 gets a new bumper with black inserts and a redesigned tailgate. The tail lamps now extend on to the tailgate, while the Asta variant rides on five-spoke alloy wheels in a new design pattern and a gunmetal finish.

The interior of the 2018 Elite i20 gets a dual-tone dashboard similar to the outgoing model. However, the automatic climate control module is now placed in the lower half of the centre console, above which is a touchscreen infotainment system. The Asta variant features a multi-functional steering wheel with volume and phone controls and, a twin-pod instrument cluster with a central MID. Engine start/stop button is standard in the top-end trim.

The carmaker is offering the same 1.2-litre petrol, 1.4-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines on this i20 facelift. The power output of the petrol engines is rated at 82bhp and 99bhp respectively, while the diesel trim produces 89bhp and 220Nm of peak torque in their current state of tune. The petrol version comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed manual gearbox is being offered on the diesel models.

Hyundai will offer the i20 automatic with the 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) in May 2018. The current set of changes should surely boost the sales of the premium hatchback in the Indian market.
