Hyundai is now betting big on SUVs for the Indian market. It expects the body style to account for 20 per cent of its total sales as compared to 13 per cent last year. Its currently has two SUVs in its lineup - the Santa Fe which only sells as a diesel and the Creta which is offered with both petrol and diesel engines.

This lineup will be expanded to include the Tucson D-segment SUV which is expected to be launched around the festive season and will slot in alongside the Elantra in their lineup. Hyundai also showcased a sub four-metre SUV concept during the 2016 Auto Expo which it dubbed the Carlino. However, this vehicle is at least a year away by company estimates. This means by 2018 it will have a vehicle with a SUV body style in nearly every segment under Rs 40 lakh.

It has also said that it will, depending on the maturity of the Indian market, bring its Genesis luxury brand of vehicles to the country.
