India’s leading small car makers Hyundai and Maruti posted highest sale figures for the month of November. Hyundai Motors India Limited sold 55,265 units last month which means a 28.5 percent growth as compared to November 2008. It nearly doubled its sales in the domestic market by selling 28,162 units which is approximately 92.5 percent growth over the same period last month. However, it registered a slight decline in its export figures owing to the ending of scrappage scheme in the overseas market.

“The overall economic scenario has been positive and this has translated in to more footfalls in the showroom and higher automobile sales as indicated by this month’s figures. We hope the economy will continue on a growth trajectory as it will help the Indian automotive industry to maintain a double digit growth figure,” said Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice President - Marketing and Sales, HMIL.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited posted 17.1 percent growth as compared to its sales in November 2008. It had registered exceptionally low sales in November 2008 due to ongoing economic crisis. It sold 56,005 units in A2 segment against 34,976 units in the same month last year. Maruti's sales in the (A2) segment comprising Alto, Wagon-R, Zen, Swift, Ritz and A-Star grew 60 percent over November 2008, said company statement.
