Meanwhile, the company is witnessing a rise in the bookings of its portfolio cars in recent months, as the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki is struggling with halted production at its Manesar and Gurgaon plants. The surging waiting period for Maruti cars is benefiting the car makers like Hyundai that generally remains second most favorite brand after Maruti among the Indian buyers. Hyundai is planning to increase the manufacturing capacity of its Chennai plant from 6.3 lakh to 6.7 lakh units, in a bid to meet the rising demand for its car in the Indian market.

In a recent statement, R Sethuraman, Sr VP (finance & corporate affairs) said, "Bookings of Hyundai's cars have increased to some extent.” He was answering a query whether the Maruti’s Manesar plant strike is helping the firm in getting higher bookings.
