Husqvarna Motorcycles, a wholly owned subsidiary of KTM, has marked a new chapter in its long lustrous history of selling professional motorcycles. The company recently announced its new range of Enduro and Motocross bikes. The models in Enduro range comprise TE125, 250 cc and 300 cc models in two-stroke range, whereas FE250, 350 cc, 450 cc and 501 cc in four-stroke engines. While for the Motocross, it consists of four-stroke models like 250 cc, 350 cc and 450 cc four-stroke models besides an 85 cc minicross bike. In total, Husqvarna unveiled a total of 10 models, which included several advanced innovations.
As seen in the vehicles showcased by the company, the noticeable feature of a polyamide rear subframe, wherein the electric components and airbox are placed, has been specially designed to enhance the rigidity, thereby giving higher flex than the conventional aluminium structure. With this casted subframe, the usage of welds decreases and the suspension system of KTM gives away better handling. However, a thing to mention is that these bikes are re-badged versions of Husabergs, another brand that is owned by KTM.
According to statement released by Husqvarna, “All models feature the advanced WP 4CS closed cartridge front fork with four separate chambers, which represents a premium class, front-end suspension system. The enduro range – except the TE125 – feature electric starters. The rear features an advanced shock with linkage system especially developed for enduro use, which is robust and effective for easy handling over rough terrain and for absorbing big hits. At the same time, the bikes are designed to provide optimal traction over smaller ruts and bumps.”
While for the plans of Husqvarna in India, it is being said that KTM will partner with Bajaj Auto in order to woo younger generation. The parent company of Husqvarna is taking the Indian auto market seriously as it has already confirmed that the bikes of its arm will make way in the country soon. However, it has not chosen any particular time period for launching its motorcycles. According to reports, Bajaj and KTM will jointly launch the Husqvarna dual purpose enduro bike that is expected to be powered by a new engine architecture which is in a developing phase. This single-cylinder motorcycle is claimed to have a low engine specification of 200 cc and will be produced at Bajaj Auto's Chakan plant.
Since the cost of manufacturing vehicles in India is significantly lower as compared to other nations, it is also expected that the bike will be exported in other markets. In order to ensure that Husqvarna brand is marketed well in the Indian auto market, Bajaj and KTM would be launching various promotional campaigns. The expected date for arrival of Husqvarna bikes in India is not ascertained as of now, but the launch could happen in 2014. Sources close to the development process stated that in terms of pricing, the entry level motorcycle of the brand might cost around Rs. 1 lakh; however, nothing is confirmed as of now.
