The Japan based Indian company Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) plans to release its first diesel car in India by 2012. Initially, the car will make its debut in European market and soon after that the company plans to launch it in India. The senior spokesperson of HSCI says,” The small diesel engine will be ready for European models by 2012. We’re thinking of bringing this to India after that, though with modifications. It is likely to be used in cars below the Accord and CR-V, like the City, Jazz and the new small car.”

Honda Motors will come out with an adapted version of the 2.0L Idtec diesel engine with 2000cc in capacity and this engine will be used in Honda Jazz, Honda City and forthcoming new small cars of Honda.

The most notable point is that Honda doesn’t have any diesel variants in India so far and globally the company has only one type of diesel engine which is a 2.2 L power plant. This engine is used in CR-V and Accord overseas.

With India's strong preference for diesel engine, a diesel Honda engine here will surely receive a warm welcome.
