The performance of Honda cars has improved by a fair margin since it has started offering 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine. Some of the cars, which have employed this engine are Amaze, Mobilio and City and have surged way ahead of their competitors. Honda is looking to take their dream run to the next model, the hatchback Brio. The brand has started employing its R&D department behind the 1.2 litre i-DTEC diesel engine, which will feature in the next generation Brio.

When we delved into the details of the new engine, it was seen that the new i-DTEC is basically a 3-pot version of the old and proven 1.5 litre quadric-cylinder diesel engine. This larger engine can be seen in the bigger models Amaze, Mobilio and City. The engine is capable of producing a 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of peak torque. In this context, it is expected that the new engine will produce power in the range of 70 to 75 PS and 150 to 160 Nm of torque. Honda Brio currently comes with a 1.2 litre, 4-cylinder V-TEC petrol engine, which might be carried to the next generation.

Despite all the good points, Honda has to work hard on reducing the drawbacks of the mill. It is extremely noisy and harsh; however, the problems can be reduced if one cylinder is reduced. Though, the ways of determining a way to reduce the problems have not been yet determined, it will be a matter of interest how Honda does it. Apart from some technical improvements, the new model can feature some cosmetic upgrades, as well. Despite its impressive looks and performance, Honda Brio has not been able to make such a mark in the Indian market. However, now that the diesel engine is on its way, it is expected that the car will rise up to the expectations.
