      Honda working on expanding small car portfolio to cater rise in demand

      At a recent conference held in Tokyo, Takahiro Hachigo Chief Executive Officer revealed plans of expanding its small car portfolio in India to cater to meet rising demand in the market. At the event, when questioned on whether India could emerge as export hub for Honda cars, Hachigo said, “We believe that if we can increase the competitiveness of finished cars produced in India, there is ample room for exports from India to grow.”

      Speaking more on company's plans for small cars in India, Takahiro Hachigo said, “At Honda, we place priority on trying to listen to the needs, request from the customers from different regions. Therefore, if the region is showing strong demand for small cars we are always seriously considering possibilities.” Adding further, he said, “This applies not only to India, but all of Asia, listening in to the demands for small cars. We are thinking of what kind of strategy we need to put in place for this category..."

      Currently in India, Honda sells Brio in compact hatchback segment, while the Jazz has been a premium offering. Apart from India, the company has also been witnessing a rise in demand for small cars across Asia, and the company has been working on a strategy to cater to this demand. Globally, the company also wants to enhance its six regional operation systems and expects to see each region work individually on their development, procurement , production and sales in their respective regions.
