According to a Japanese news portal, Honda's recent launch, the Honda Jazz based crossover i.e. the Honda Vezel has received 24,900 bookings since its launch on December 19, 2013. The figure was arrived at after the company's latest count on January 12, 2014. If nothing else, this figure speaks volumes about the growing interest and the enormous demand the Honda Vezel has generated in Japan's domestic automobile market. The report delves a little bit deeper and claims while consumers in their 20s are opting for the hybrid, the ones in their 50s and 60s are going with the petrol variant.

The Honda Vezel is a compact-SUV that is based on the Honda Jazz's platform and was first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor show. The car's sloping roofline along with door handle in the C-pillar lend it a coupe-like look, thus making it more of a crossover than an SUV.

The Vezel is currently offered in 3 variants in Japan, namely: X, Hybrid X, and Hybrid X.L. While 'X' is solely powered by petrol, the 'Hybrid X' and 'Hybrid X.L' are front-wheel and four-wheel drive hybrid variants of the car. The petrol-only Honda Vezel X houses a 1.5litre i-VTEC mill under the hood. Whereas, the hybrid variants employ Honda’s i-DCD engine, a combination of the petrol engine with an electric engine.

For now, the Vezel is being sold only in Japan and will not reach the European before mid 2014. And as for the car going to the US, Honda is expected to launch it there in the latter part of 2014.
