Honda has issued another international recall for over a million cars and this time it is the pre-facelift version of the current generation Accord sedan. Over 21 lakh Accord cars are subject to a risk of engine bay fire caused by moisture and resulting in short-circuit of the battery sensor.
The sealant against moisture intrusion might not be sufficient which might result in the corrosion and rusting of the battery sensor resulting in an electrical short circuit. There is a chance of the short circuit resulting in fire due to high temperature in the engine bay.
Honda had begun investigating the issue when the first case of engine bay fire was reported in 2015 from Canada followed by a similar case in China in 2016 which led to the discovery of the issue. Almost 11.5 lakh cars manufactured between 2013 and 2016 have been affected in the US along with 10 lakh more cars across the world.
