      Honda suspends production of Brio hatchback as component shortage deepens

      Due to a severe shortage of components at the Honda’s manufacturing plant in India, the production of the company’s Brio model has been witnessing a complete halt. The supply of essential components for the manufacturing of Brio hatchback have suffered very badly due to the recent floods in the Thailand, which is a major supplier of components at Honda’s grater Noida based manufacturing unit. The Honda Brio hatchback, which was launched in the country a few months back, has been receiving a good response from the buyers of this segment in the Indian market.

      Speaking on the shortage of components at the company’s India based manufacturing unit, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President at HSCIL (Honda Siel Cars India Limited), said that the production of Honda Brio model will be suspended completely from the starting of the month of December. He added that the parts that have been imported from Thailand mostly include the electronic and underbody parts.

      At present, the company’s Noida based manufacturing unit has an annual capacity of about 1 lakh untis. However, due to the recent floods in Thailand, it hasn’t been able to utilize the capacity and the production remained way lower as compared to the total capacity of the plant. Besides Brio, the production of the other models of the company has also been affected very badly that comprises of premium hatchback Honda Jazz, and mid-size sedan Honda City.
