      Honda suffers 21 percent dive in sales this August

      Following the trajectory of automakers witnessing downtrend in sales this August is Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), the Indian unit of the Japan based car maker with sales taking a dive by around 21 percent in August 2012. During the concerned month last year, the automaker had sold 6,907 units as compared to the sale of 5,470 units this August.

      During the period April to August 2012, the sales figures however, denote a 54 percent jump with sales rising from 19,433 units in the year ago period to 29,932 units. With the mounting interest rates, pacing fuel prices and depreciating value of rupee, the sales of major automakers witnessed an upside down.

      Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice-President – Sales & Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India, commented, “The macroeconomic indicators are not very encouraging and the general inflationary trends have led to low consumer sentiments affecting the demand of cars. We are hopeful of returning to good growth numbers during the festival season.”

      In the sales for the month of August 2012, the compact hatchback Honda Brio claimed 2335 units, the compact sedan Honda City contributed 2536 units, subcompact hatchback Honda Jazz totalled 465 units, the compact crossover SUV Honda CR-V tallied 47 units while the full size sedan Honda Accord recorded sale of 34 units.
