      Honda Siel to expand production capacity to 1,20,000 units in this fiscal

      Honda Siel Cars India Limited (HSCIL), the Indian subsidiary of Japanese auto giant Honda, is all set to enhance the manufacturing capacity of its Grater Noida based plant. The company is looking forward to enhance the capacity of this plant by 20 percent, taking its total capacity in the country to 1,20,000 units by the end of current financial year.

      In a statement given on Thursday, HSCI senior vice president and director Raman Kumar Sharma said, “This additional capacity would only involve minor investment.” He added that the company now working the diesel variants for its cars. It would be difficult to put a definite date to its launch now, he added.

      Honda has been operating at the Greater Noida based plant since year 1997. With an initial investment of Rs 450 crore at the time of establishment, the total investment at this plant has reached to Rs 1,620 crore.

      The second manufacturing unit of the firm is at Tapukara, Rajasthan, which will have a total manufacturing capacity of 60,000 units per annum. This plant is spread over an area of 600 acres and the company had launched the first phase of this plant in year 2008.

      While commenting on the response received by the company’s recently launched Brio model in the Indian market, Mr. Sharma said, “Since its launch, we have received 5,000 bookings for Brio pan-India and the deliveries would start soon.”
