Honda Brio, the popular car from the portfolio of Japanese auto giant Honda Motors, is slowly but surely making a mark in the highly congested compact hatchback segment in India. In the month of April 2012, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) managed to sell a total of 3,590 units of Brio hatchback in the Indian market, even higher as compared to the company’s flagship sedan Honda City which stood at 2,092 units during last month.

The total hatchback segment sales of Honda cars including Jazz and Brio was 4,890 units during this month as compared to 4,622 of the Chevrolet Beat and the UVA, and Volkswagen Polo’s 3,397 units. Market share of the firm in the premium hatchback segment was about 7.3 percent in the Indian market during April 2012.

Speaking on the company’s performance during the month, HSCI’s senior vice-president (marketing & sales), Jnaneswar Sen, said, “Since we resumed Brio production from the middle of February 2012, we have sold more than 12,000 Brio and cumulatively over 14,000 units so far since its launch in September 2011. The contribution of Brio to our overall sales volume has been over 44 per cent in the last three months.”
