Ever imagined that a Lawnmower can burn rubber on a race track circuit? Japanese car-maker, Honda has made this fantasy come true with its new Lawnmower that found its name being registered in the record books on attaining a top speed of about 116.57 mph on the speedometer. The Honda's Lawnmower created a new record at IDIADA Proving Ground, in Tarragona, Spain that features a decent 2 kms circuit space. The machine was driven by Piers Ward from the Top Gear magazine who had to drive it both ways to register a new record.

British Touring Car Championship race team was roped in by Honda to work on Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor and achieve this astonishing feat. To begin with, the Lawnmower shared the 1,000cc engine from Honda VTR Firestorm motorcycle. The powerful engine is mated to a six speed gearbox that is capable of generating impressive power of about 109 Hp and clock about 60 Mph in just about 4 seconds. The Lawnmower from Honda is blessed with Morris Minor steering rack that enables good control at high speeds.

The Honda Lawnmower gets the wheels and suspension from an ATV. The grass bag section has been smartly altered to hold oil cooler, fuel tank and a secondary radiator. The cutter deck is made from fiberglass material that makes it lighter and faster. To retain the blade cutting function, the Lawnmower gets two electric motors that shall power the blades instead of the engine that would do the task earlier.

Ellie Ostinelli, PR Communications Manager for Honda (UK), said. “The original brief for Mean Mower was to create the world's fastest lawnmower – and now it officially is, by some distance! We are all delighted to hold a Guinness world record's title and we'd like to thank everyone who was involved in what has been a challenging yet incredibly exciting project."
