      Honda's Compact SUV plans may deepen competition in the segment

      As seen this year, the SUV market in India has nearly grown by double in comparison to previous years. Among the current lot, Renault's Duster and Ford's Ecosport have been popular ones in the Indian market. Honda has been a strong brand in the Indian market and holds good stakes in the sedan segment, the recently launched Mobilio has been the company's first car in the Indian MPV segment. Reportedly, the Japanese carmaker Honda has also been thinking of making its presence felt in the SUV segment with a new yet to be launched compact SUV.

      When Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice president, sales and marketing, HCIL was questioned on possibility of launching a compact SUV in the Indian market, he stated, “Yes, we are studying it, as SUV is a potential and growing segment. We will adopt the strategy, considering the market requirements.” The company is also due to bring-in the new Jazz next year. The new stylish hatchback is expected to be a strong competitor in the Indian hatchback segment.

      A while ago Honda had revealed the Jazz based SUV for the European markets. The internationally popular ones named as Honda HR-V/Vezel shall not make it to the Indian market. Specification or design aesthetics for the hinted upcoming compact SUV in India is not known for now and shall only be known post an official announcement made by the company in this regard.

      Honda
