Honda launches Africa Twin in India

The Africa Twin’s trademark Honda styling and dual LED headlamps pay homage to its predecessor, the 1989 Honda XRV750. The Africa Twin is powered by a 998cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which develops 94bhp and 98Nm of torque. Globally, the Africa Twin gets the option of either a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission. However for the Indian market, Honda has launched only the DCT model.

The Honda selectable torque control (HSTC) system can be adjusted in three modes to alter the power delivery according to the rider’s preference. The ABS gives you the option of retaining the full functionality of the system for the front wheel, while deactivating it for the rear one. This should allow the rider to have fun while maintaining a safety margin. The Africa Twin rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels.

The Honda Africa Twin is a locally assembled big bike, which means that it falls in a lower tax bracket. This has enabled Honda to launch the bike with an attractive price tag. It shares market space with the likes of the Triumph Tiger 800 XCx, Suzuki V-Strom 1000, Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the Ducati Multistrada 950.
