Local arm of Japanese auto maker Honda, HCIL has proclaimed to conduct a voluntary recall of 31,226 units of Brio hatchback and Amaze compact sedan that comes without ABS option. The company will recall Amaze and Brio for a possible defect in Proportioning Valve, around 15,623 units of Brio and 15,603 units of petrol powered Amaze will be recalled. Proportioning Valve is a part of Brake system that reconciles brake distribution pressure to the wheels. The defect could be in Amaze and Brio units manufactured between February 28, 2013 and January 2014.

However, the company has not received any complaint as of yet regarding the same in any of these units of the forenamed vehicles. But since there is a minor possibility of mis-assembly of proportioning Valve, therefore Honda has announced to conduct a recall.

Under the voluntary recall, Honda will replace the Proportioning Valve if required after minutely scrutinizing the vehicles. The process of scrutinizing and replacement will take place at Honda India’s dealerships spread across India. Customers will be notified regarding the recall and will not be charged anything for the replacement.

The reason behind a possible defect in Proportioning valve defect in non-ABD units is that this is not a part of braking system for ABS equipped models. Therefore ABS affixed Brio units and Petrol/diesel variants of Amaze are barred from this recall.

Owners of Brio and Amaze Petrol (sans ABS) can verify if their car needs to be inspected for the possible defect in Proportioning Valve at an exquisite microsite available on Honda India’s official website. All they have to do is to submit their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
