The production facility of Honda Motors in Thailand was completely destroyed when the country was hit by floods last month. It will now take around $650 million and more than a year’s time to completely renovate the Honda’s Thailand plant. Until then company’s Indian unit will cover up for the shortage that is caused by the floods in Thailand.

Jnaneshwar Sen, Senior Vice President Marketing Honda India, said that they have been mostly exporting press parts and certain engine components to nations such as Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Malaysia, Taiwan and Philippines. He further added that, “Earlier, Thailand used to cater to the demands of these markets."

When floods hit the country, Honda’s Thailand plant had more than 1,000 vehicles which were all ready for delivery. In only a few hours the entire facility along with 1,000 ready to be delivered cars were completely immersed in 10 feet deep water.

At the moment, to bring things back on track for its Thailand plant, Honda will have to start everything from the scratch. Honda Motors is going through a rough phase and according to the analysts; it will take over a year to make things operational at the Thailand production plant.
