Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), the Indian subsidiary of Japan based auto giant Honda, recalled 57,853 units of its popular mid-sized sedan – Honda City – for replacing a faulty engine part. The company has said that the preventive replacement measures have only been taken for the newer third-generation City cars that were manufactured between the period of November 2008 and December 2009.

The company said in a statement on Thursday, "HSCI is proactively replacing the part (lost motion springs) which are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use, as they may bend or break over time resulting in abnormal engine noise potentially causing engine stalling."

The replacement of the spring, placed in the valve train inside the car’s engine, will be offered free of cost. "The replacement would be carried out free of cost and the company will communicate directly with the owners of the cars which are covered under this part replacement," said the company. It added that HSCI is carrying out the part replacement as part of a global exercise by Honda Motor Company to ensure stringent quality standards for its products.

Also, the recall announced by the company applies to certain units of Fit/Jazz powered by 1.5L i-VTEC engine, which is sold in other countries and not sold in India.
